Why this runs on phone calls

There are no forms on this site. That is on purpose.

A form asks you to fit your kitchen into boxes, then hands your details to whoever is next in line. A phone call lets you explain the awkward parts: the wall you are not sure about, the soft spot under the sink, or a budget that depends on what the job turns out to need.

Plan on a real conversation of several minutes. It is the fastest way to reach someone who can actually help, and you will hang up knowing more than when you started.

What to have ready when you call

None of this is required. Each item makes the call more useful.

  • Your town and ZIP code, so you reach someone who works in your area.
  • Whether you own the home. Owners generally make the decisions on a remodel.
  • Roughly when the house was built. It changes what to look for, especially before 1980.
  • What bothers you most. Failing cabinets, no counter space, poor light, or a closed-in room.
  • What you would like instead. A photo you saved, or a kitchen you liked at a friend's house, is a fine place to start.
  • A budget range. It does not need to be precise, but it does need to be honest.
  • Your timing. Starting soon, or still planning? Either is fine.

After the call

The remodeler looks at the job

A real price needs someone in the room. Ask whether the in-home estimate is free before you book it, because each remodeler sets their own terms. During the visit, walk through what you discussed on the phone. Point out anything that worries you, including stains, soft floors, odd switches and doors that stick.

You get a written proposal

Ask for a line-by-line scope that names cabinets, counters, appliance allowances, permits and what is excluded. Check the license with the Florida DBPR and ask for proof of insurance. It is completely reasonable to compare more than one proposal.

Permits and paperwork

If the work needs a permit, the contractor normally pulls it from the Titusville Building Department, the City of Cocoa or Brevard County, depending on your address. On a permitted job with a direct contract above $5,000, Florida's lien law calls for a recorded Notice of Commencement. Keep a copy, and ask for lien releases as you pay.

The work gets done

A same-layout refresh may take a few weeks on site. Layout changes and walls take longer, often two to three months. Keep the air conditioning on throughout, because Florida humidity is hard on new cabinets. Plan on eating elsewhere for part of the job, and ask where the temporary kitchen can go.

You close it out

Walk through the finished kitchen with the remodeler and make a list of anything left to finish. Hold the final payment until the list is done and final inspections have passed.

Process questions

Who will answer when I call?

Your call goes to a kitchen remodeling provider or a representative who works with providers near you. Calls may be routed to independent providers and may be recorded. See the privacy page for details.

Do I have to hire the remodeler I talk to?

No. There is no obligation at any stage. If the fit is not right, you can walk away.

Who handles the contract and the work?

The remodeler. Remodelers are independent, and any agreement is between you and them, so check credentials before you sign.
